“ I remember a time when I did was very averse to hot pot in general because I was eating at a lot of barbecue places. I am glad that I manage to force myself to try new things....if very reluctantly. So when anyone mentions hot pot in NYC, the first thing that people think of are Chinese owned businesses. When people think of Thai food, they usually just think of the popular Thai street foods like Pad Thai. When I first heard of Jaew Hon a while back I was intrigued because Thai hot pot was a new concept for me....let alone hot pot in general. And I had stopped by a while back which was when I had little experience. But the place to me as memorable and now that I am more accustomed to hot pot I always thought of Jaew Hon and decided to go back recently. That particular establishment is the definition of a family owned small business and has been in that neighborhood of Jackson Heights for many years. It is located on the second floor of the building and has a very cozy atmosphere. The dining area consists of tables along the wall as you walk in as well as some tables in the back. I remember my first time dining in and one of the female customer next to my table had asked for a plastic bag which confused me (they were not offering anything to to go). Turned out she wanted it to put over her hair to protect it from the savory food and broths that were filling the room. I borrowed her idea for other restaurants and got laughed but it actually works! The place is the way I remember it when I stopped back recently. They have a section of unlimited vegetables (chinese style lettuce and bok choys, mushrooms, bean sprouts etc) frozen items like fish balls. There is actually a great amount of stuff to choose from for sides. Then for rice you have the option of jasmine or garlic rice. There are two separate rice cookers that are usually always have enough for a couple of trips. One nice surprise when I returned is finding out that in addition to the hot pot they are known for they offer a Thai style bbq option for those who prefer to grill the meats. ALL YOU CAN EAT HOT or Thai BBQ $34.99 per person as of this review (price subject to change) 90 minute time limit (discretion of business to extend) Wasted food results in a surcharge (which is fair and makes sense The hot pot option allows you two soup broths. The options include SPICY -Tom zap (beef or pork) -Jaew Hon (beef or pork blood( - Yen Ta Fo (pork) NON SPICY - Clear (chicken broth) - Yen Ta Fo (Chinese beancurd) - Vegetarian (mushroom base) -Plain soup (water base) The meats and seafood they offer will definitely fill you. You can get a max of three servings at a time for each meat but order but pace yourself as it can be a lot of food all at once. You get aprox 50z of meat per order. I usually just order three or four meats at a time. They bring you sauces to the table. The Jaew signature sauce is one of my favorites among the ones they offer and there is a newer miso type sauce that is tasty as well. The menu consists of: sliced beef sliced fatty beef marinated beef beef liver beef tripe marinated chicken sliced pork marinated pork sliced pork belly marinated mince pork pork intestine pork liver pork kidney fish squid clams shrimp tofu The BBQ option (Moo Ta Ka) was introduced last year and has become a popular alternative. You get a very unique grill surrounded by a ring of chicken broth so you can boil some food while other food cooks on the grill. For the grill you need to wait until it heats up and then use the piece of fat they provide to oil the top before you start cooking. And contrary to other bbq spots, you will be cooking all your own food which is actually very fun. All the grills are portable tabletop and of course need to be refilled every now and then. The servers either come around or they leave a pot of broth at the table for you. For drinks they definitely got you covered. There is a separate menu that consists of ice tea and smoothies, hot tea, colas, beers, wine and even soju! You always have to get the classic Thai ice tea but their coconut smoothies and ovaltine smoothies are quite good! And I always tell people to save room for dessert. There is a very unique and refreshing ovaltine mountain ice dessert they make that is great for sharing with your table. I would like to give a proper shoutout to the awesome employees who made my experience very good on my recent visit. PJ was there when I showed up to eat late during a weeknight. It was not too busy and since it had been a while since I last dined at that establishment he explained some of the new menu offerings and policies to me. Tom was the other server there and was also very polite and friendly. He is the one who makes most of the smoothies and desserts and he is very good at what he does. There is a very nice lady who was also there but I unfortunately forgot her name. She always checked on me. ”

“ A great Thai hotpot location in Elmhurst. It's a twist on the many Chinese flavored hotpot restaurants in NYC. The sauces are premade for you with a fiery red chili pepper paste and a fish sauce based dipping sauce. Great selection of veggies and meats. It's small, seating maybe 30 tops so come early. ”

“ I've seen reviews saying that there's a long line, but I've gone twice lately and I was able to be seated immediately. I'm obsessed with this place, not just because it's a block away, but because it is such a great deal and the food is delicious. For dine-in, there is AYCE thai hot pot or BBQ; I've only gotten the thai hot pot with the clear broth and Jaew Hon broth and I loved the Jaew Hon broth. It reminds me of boat noodle soup but with unlimited refills! The veggies and non-meat are self-serve but it's very easy to order small amounts of meat/seafood. There's thai ramen and butter garlic fried rice that I ate way too much of. I ordered another refill of the mango salad, which was delicious and spicy. I ended up having to get a Thai iced tea though to help with the spice. I love the spicy seafood dipping sauce; you're served 3 premade sauces that are excellent so you don't need to make your own. For $35pp, this is amazing. However, I also ordered takeout for $30; you only get one concentrated broth (will have to ask them next time what the appropriate dilution ratio is) and assorted veggies with your choice of meat/seafood, but it was actually enough to feed 3 girls who are not super hungry. I will definitely be back. ”

“ Cold night? HOT POT! Small and cozy second floor Thai restaurant serving up hot pot and Thai BBQ (Moo ka ta). It's everything that I look for in a restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue: Great value Not on ground floor Fun and casual We opted for the Jaew Hon broth and a non spicy chicken broth. I didn't find the Jaew Hon broth spicy. Flavor was on the mild side. Most of the flavor came from their sauces which spicy and pepper forward. Some of the best sauces that I've had. The deal was $35 per person inclusive of all the food. Beverages come at an additional cost. The service was so good that my wife that there was a surge for all the meats and seafood. Our favorites were the pork belly, the fatty beef, and the shrimp. Amongst the veggies, I really like the bok choy and the cabbage, but that's likely a matter of personal preference. They allowed us to bring our own bottle of wine for a $20 corkage fee. As mentioned earlier, service was very attentive which is surprising for an all you can eat style restaurant. There is one single occupancy, gender neutral restroom. ”

The garlic fried rice was an excellent addition, and the freshness of the meats and vegetables really stood out. Unlike traditional Chinese hotpot, we do not make our own sauce. Instead, they have 3 premade ones for us with varying spice levels. They also served complimentary appetizers such as curry balls and mango salad. Everything was amazing and I look forward to eating here again sometime. ”

I've gotten the tom zap, jaew hon and clear soup and don't be discouraged by the clear color of the soup, it's still packed with flavors! The quality of the meat isn't the best but I don't really mind given the quality of the soup, the sauces, price of ayce and GARLIC FRIED RICE were unbeatable. ”
